According to a US news report, 10 colleges go above and beyond in offering financial aid to international students.
International students are not eligible for US federal aid programs, though some state schools will offer in-state tuition to international students.
Usually, though, attending college in the US is a very costly option for international students.
While getting a job as an international student may offset some expenses, it may not be enough for many others.
Fortunately, there is some hope for international students.
In 2012, 10 US institutions of higher learning offered some very impressive financial aid packages to students from abroad:
Name of College | Number of international undergrads who received aid | Average amount of aid offered |
University of Chicago | 57 | $56,414 |
Williams College (MA) | 80 | $54,671 |
Yale University (CT) | 347 | $53,774 |
Skidmore College (NY) | 80 | $53,523 |
Harvard University (MA) | 530 | $52,758 |
Amherst College (MA) | 146 | $52,433 |
Wesleyan University (CT) | 83 | $51,450 |
Stanford University (CA) | 110 | $51,331 |
Trinity College (CT) | 146 | $51,003 |
Dartmouth College (NH) | 260 | $50,285 |
Each one of these colleges ranks in the top 50 in their respective categories in US News rankings.
Every one of these schools is very selective, and students will need to have excellent grades and overall applications to be admitted to one of these colleges. (Make sure your college application has a professional transcript translation.)
Of course, plenty of other colleges offer financial aid to international students. If your ability to go to college in the US depends on financial aid, make sure to research this when deciding where to apply to college.
